Why yarn calculators usually lie
Most online calculators give you the theoretical yardage to cover an area in stitches. They forget three things: color changes waste yarn at every transition, finishing eats roughly 5% in tail ends, and your gauge will not match the pattern’s gauge unless you swatch first.
This calculator adds 10–15% wastage by default and rounds up to the nearest whole skein. If you’re running multiple colors, add another 5% per additional color. If you’re a tight stitcher, add 5%. Better to have a leftover skein than to run out two rows from the end.
