Sprites stay sharp

Most bead patterns start life as a sprite, and most converters quietly destroy them: ordinary image resizing averages across the hard edges, turning a six-colour sprite into a 617-colour mush with 99.6% of cells holding a colour the original never had. This maker defaults to majority sampling, which reproduced the same test sprite exactly — six colours, nothing invented. The pixel art grid maker has the full measurement.

- How do I make a Perler bead pattern from a picture?
- Upload the picture and set the grid size to the number of beads across you want. The maker reduces the image to a bead palette, matches every colour to a real Perler shade, and returns a chart with a bead count per colour so you know what to buy and what to sort before you start.
- What grid size fits a Perler pegboard?
- A standard small square pegboard is 29 pegs by 29. Four of them interlocked give you 58 by 58. So 29 and 58 are the two sizes worth designing to — anything in between means a half-empty board, and anything above 58 needs a plan for joining sections before you fuse.
- Why does my sprite come out blurry in other tools?
- Because they average pixels when resizing, which invents colours that were not in the sprite. On a six-colour test sprite, ordinary resizing produced 617 distinct colours and 99.6% of cells held a colour the original never contained. This maker uses majority sampling for flat art instead, which reproduced the same sprite exactly. Bead patterns come from sprites more often than from photos, so that mode is the default here.
- Are the Perler colour names exact?
- The names and codes are real Perler shades, and they are what you buy with. The on-screen colours are approximations. Shade families are matched on screen, not color-matched. Check a physical color card before buying a full project’s worth. Hama numbering differs from Perler's — the shade families line up closely enough to substitute by eye, but the codes are not interchangeable.
- How many beads will I need?
- The chart gives a count per colour, which is the number that matters — a 29×29 board is 841 pegs if you fill every one, but most designs leave background pegs empty. Buy roughly 20% over the count for the colours you use most; beads get lost, dropped, and mis-fused.
