Terms of Service
Effective: 2026-04-27
1. The service
StitchingLab.com (“we”, “us”) provides a free, browser-based tool that converts a user-uploaded image into a stitch pattern (“the converter”), a community catalog of such patterns, a database of yarns, and related tools. By using the service, you agree to these terms.
2. Your content and the license you grant us
You retain copyright and all intellectual property rights in the images and patterns you upload. You are not transferring ownership to StitchingLab.
You grant StitchingLab a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, display, reformat, and serve the image and the generated stitch chart, solely to operate, market, and provide the service. Scope is limited to those purposes. We will not sell your uploads.
You explicitly opt in to public sharing by toggling the “Share publicly” control at the moment of generation. Without that toggle, your pattern is private and visible only to you (via the permanent link emailed to your address). Public patterns may be indexed by search engines, displayed in the StitchingLab catalog, and shared on social platforms — including Pinterest — with attribution to your chosen display name.
3. What you certify when you upload
- You own or have the rights to upload the image.
- The image does not infringe any third party’s rights.
- The image does not contain unlawful, sexual, violent, harassing, or hateful content.
- You will not use the service to create patterns from images you do not have permission to use.
4. The generated chart
The chart we generate from your image is licensed back to you under these terms — you may use it however you wish for your personal crochet, knitting, or stitching projects, including selling finished items you make from it. We retain a non-exclusive license to host and display the chart on the service. The chart is also available as a canonical SLPN string (the StitchingLab Pattern Notation), which you may copy, share, or use with third-party tools.
5. Removal and right to take down content
You may delete your patterns at any time from your account settings, or by emailing hello@stitchinglab.com.
We may remove any pattern at any time, without notice, for violation of these terms or for any reason at our discretion. We will respond to valid copyright claims under our DMCA process — see the Community Guidelines.
6. Attribution
Public patterns display the uploader’s chosen display name. If you upload anonymously and don’t set a name, the default is “Anonymous Maker.” You can change your display name in account settings. Founder-seeded patterns sourced from royalty-free photography are attributed as “StitchingLab” with a source-image credit linking to the original photographer.
7. No model training without consent
We will not train any machine-learning model on your uploaded images or generated patterns without separate, opt-in consent. This is a future feature and will be announced with a meaningful opt-in if and when introduced.
8. Affiliates
StitchingLab earns commission when you buy yarns through our affiliate links (Amazon Associates, LoveCrafts, Knit Picks, Furls). See the full affiliate disclosure.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is.” Yarn-quantity and gauge estimates are approximations — we recommend swatching before starting any project. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties and limit our liability to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months (which is zero for the free tier).
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes increment the license-grant version number. Patterns uploaded under previous versions remain governed by the version current at upload time.
