Ferris Wheel

By StitchingLab ·

This 60×60 chart finishes at roughly 15×14 inches in worsted-weight tapestry crochet, using 2 colors — a clean two-color project — a good first counted chart. In tapestry crochet this makes a pillow front or bag panel; repeat it for a full graphgan. The grid, materials estimate, and written row-by-row instructions below are all free; open the chart in the editor to resize it or swap the palette to yarns you already own.

Project kit

Gear this chart actually calls for

  • Clover Amour Crochet Hook Set

Comfort-grip hooks in every size a chart can call for — one set covers the whole CYC weight range. — 4.5-5.5 mm (7 to I-9) — one size down hides the carried strand

  • Tapestry Needles

Blunt-tip needles for weaving in the ends every color change leaves behind.

    Buy on Amazon →
  • Locking Stitch Markers

Mark pattern repeats, color-section starts, and the first stitch of the round so a miscount never survives a row.

  • Yarn Ball Winder

Center-pull cakes feed evenly and stand still while you work — worth it once a project runs to many skeins. — 8 skeins wind into tidy center-pull cakes

  • Sharp Yarn Snips

Small, sharp snips cut yarn clean at every color change — cleaner joins and easier weaving-in than scissors.

Before you start

  • Foundation: ch 61; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (60 sc).
  • Ch 1 at the start of every row (does not count as a stitch), turn.
  • Change color on the LAST stitch of the old color: work the final yarn over with the new color.
  • Tapestry style: carry the unused strand and crochet over it. Intarsia style: use a separate bobbin per color area and drop/pick up.
  • US terms. RS rows are read right to left on the chart, WS rows left to right.
